COMORBIDITY

What is a co-morbid condition?

Answer: A second condition that commonly occurs along with a disability.

Common co-occurring conditions.

    • Epilepsy by itself may not be a developmental disability. However, many people with developmental disabilities also have epilepsy.
    • Cerebral Palsy, also known as CP, is an injury to the parts of the brain that control our muscles. It can be mild, even mistaken as simply being clumsy, or severe enough that a person requires a wheelchair or other special equipment. CP does not get worse over time and most people with CP have a normal life expectancy. A lot of valuable information on cerebral palsy can be found in this article from the National Information Center for Children and Youth with Disabilities.
