Links on Hearing Impairment

Helping your child prepare for work: Although intended for children who are blind or deaf-blind, this web page is excellent advice for any young person with a disability. One very valuable point is encouraging volunteer work - something parents seldom think about - but few organizations will turn down free labor. This provides a chance for the person to show what he or she can do, possibly getting a job with that organization. It also gives work experience. The second important point is the importance of developing social skills. The reason most people lose a job is not that they can't do the work but because they cannot get along with their coworkers, employer or customers. (Yes, we do know we included this in the links on Visual Impairment, but we included it here again to make sure you did not miss it.)
