National Federation of the Blind website - if we could, we would require everyone who is visually impaired, or who cares about someone who is, to go to this website. They have everything you could possibly imagine ever needing or want to know.

For children who are blind, the Braille Bug site is a cute way to help them learn Braille. You can write them for free materials, too.

Helping your child prepare for work: Although intended for children who are blind or deaf-blind, this web page is excellent advice for any young person with a disability. One very valuable point is encouraging volunteer work - something parents seldom think about - but few organizations will turn down free labor. This provides a chance for the person to show what he or she can do, possibly getting a job with that organization. It also gives work experience. The second important point is the importance of developing social skills. The reason most people lose a job is not that they can't do the work but because they cannot get along with their coworkers, employer or customers.

Older blind and visually impaired persons - from the National Federation of the Blind site, focuses on how elders who are blind can continue to be active and involved in their families and communities.
