There are many personal issues that individuals with Spinal Cord injuries may not be willing to share or feel to uncomfortable discussing and some of those issues are:
- Depression – depending upon the severity and length of healing each person will experience mood swings or “why me” feelings. They may require personal attention and/or professional help.
- Medication – each person will be required to take some form of medication, muscle relaxers, pain pills, antibiotics, etc. They may also need possible assistance with administration of the pills.
- Leg bags – some individuals will require condom catheters with connections to a leg bag that generally goes down the leg and is strapped to the inside of the leg.
- Catheter – some individuals will require a condom catheter. There are various styles and sizes.
- Colostomy bags – some individuals who have had intestinal issues may require this type of bag that is connected to the stomach and is attached to the outer part of the body.
- Bed sores – some individuals will get these if they do not rotate their body while lying for a long period of time. This is caused by staying in one position all the time and can result in severe infection or death.
